Podcast CHEmic #66 – Modern Treatment of Obesity Is Not Simple, and the Risks Must Be Taken Seriously

In the latest episode of the Chemik podcast, Veronika Stenadová, awarded for the best presentation by young researchers at the CarDia Institute, discusses current trends in obesity research and the interdisciplinary collaboration that CarDia promotes. The project connects various institutions and laboratories, each focusing on a specific aspect of research—from obesity itself to its secondary effects, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, circadian rhythm disorders, and the influence on fat tissue metabolism.

Veronika Stenadová also presents peptide-based therapeutics, which have gained prominence primarily in obesity treatment, and their potential in a broader medical context. Recent studies suggest that these compounds can regulate appetite, blood sugar levels, and may even play a role in treating neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease. In the conversation, she explains how peptides function in the body, the differences between natural and synthetic variants, and why their use requires careful consideration. She also addresses potential side effects and highlights why modern obesity treatment is complex, carrying not only hope but also risks.
